What We're Up To...

  • Trick-or-Treating

Emma dressed up as Tigger this year for Halloween.    She was the cutest Tigger you've ever seen too.  I was so glad she was able to get out.  She's been sick since Friday a week before.  I had taken her to the doctor when she came home from school on Wednesday with a fever.  All tests came back negative: strep, flu, blood test.  So the doctor told me it's either a viral cold thing that's going around or if it's not better by the 10th day, then it was a sinus infection.  Her fever was gone by friday evening.  But by Sunday, her symptoms had not changed much, so we went & got her prescription antibiotic filled to treat her for a sinus infection.  So far Emma is feeling much better.  She's not coughing nearly as much at night anymore so she's getting better sleep.  Hopefully in the next few days she'll be feeling even better and back to her normal self.

Friday, we went to the church's Trunk-or-Treat.  Emma had a good time.  I wouldn't let her do too much to overexert herself, but she still managed to have a very fun night.  She wanted to ride the swing ride.  The one that you sit in a swing and it goes round & round.  I wasn't sure if she'd be okay doing this by herself, but she was so happy.  She did it!  Had a great time on that swing ride.  She went down a big blow-up slide.  We had hotdogs and chips for dinner, then went trick-or-treating around the parking lot to all the trunks open with candy.

Saturday morning after Emma woke up, the first thing she said to me was that she was ready to go trick-or-treating.  Silly girl.  I had to explain to her that she had to wait until the sun was ready to go to bed before we did that.  She was so excited all day and couldn't wait til it was time.  We spent the day resting so she wouldn't be too tired.  We also shared a fun while outside with her cousin Jackson & her Aunt Amanda & Uncle Steven.  They had a flower pot full of acorns and were throwing them to try to get them into a big flower pot filled with water.  Emma found it to be quite entertaining.

She also let me take a couple pictures of her under a very pretty fall colored tree.

Then it was FINALLY time for trick-or-treating.  We headed over to Granny & Paw-Paw's house.  I knew they would really enjoy seeing Emma & Jackson in their costumes.  We walked a short way around their neighborhood until Emma's pumpkin got so full she said to me, "It's time to go back now, my bag's getting full mommy."

    Jackson's first stop trick-or-treating.

It was so hot that night that I had to get her out of the costume once we were back at the house so she could cool down.  Then we headed over to Nanny's house & Cissy's house.  We had a good time chatting with Nanny and I, of course, had a nice time eating her goodies that she had waiting for us!!  Nanny always has the best food!!  Then we headed next door to Cissy's house where she took a picture of us & got Emma some goodie bags.  Then I sat down & chatted for a while.  Emma ended up falling asleep on my lap while we waited out a heavy rain.

It was a late night, but well worth it!!

  • Emma had a renal ultrasound on Wednesday.  Since she got the UTI a few weeks ago, she has seen her pediatrician and the UTI has been cleared, but we wanted to get an ultrasound of her bladder & kidneys just to check on things.

    To help remember...
when Emma was born, she had fluid on her left kidney.  she had a couple ultrasounds done back then, but nothing ever came of it.

We have an appointment scheduled in a little over a week to see a Nephrologist.  I got a call today from the doctors' office to let me know that Emma's right kidney has some "fluid duplicating" around it.  I'm not sure what this means, but am pretty sure we're looking at doing another test.  The pediatrician sent the results to the Nephro doctor that we'll be seeing.  So I guess it's another waiting game to see what they think the best course of action is for Emma.  I have a feeling that we will be doing the VCUG next.  That's a test that they put dye in the bladder to see if it will go up into her kidneys or stay in the bladder as it should.

    On another note...
Emma has a stomach virus that's going around.  Ick.  I had to pick her up from school around lunch time on Thursday.  She's got the tummy cramping and the diarhea, but thankfully no vomiting and no fevers.  She's on the bland diet now to give her tummy time to rest and recover.  I'm hoping it doesn't take forever to get out of her system.  She did better today although she still had a little bit of an upset tummy off and on.

Emma is really enjoying going to school.  She's learning to listen a little better, even though she does far better at school than at home with me.  All her teachers tell me how quiet she is and what nice manners she has, always saying please and thank you.  what?!  MY Emma??  lol  I can see her having the manners.  Even though she doesn't always demonstrate them here at home, she's usually pretty good with them around other people.  But my Emma quiet?!  No way.  I guess she's still trying to get used to being there and having it as part of her daily routine.  Eventually I'm sure she'll come right out of that shell when she's gotten warmed up to the place.  And I'm finally hearing more about what she does in school from her now.  It's fun hearing all the stories.  She's made quite a few friends.

I'll keep you updated as we get all the doctor visits under way.

  • Emma went with Mommy this year for her annual Hippolotofus Reunion.    However, before we even left I had to take her to the hospital - diagnosis; Urinary Tract Infection.  So... there's a new thing to worry about.  Does it have anything to do with her Syndrome?  Will she get more now?  Is it because she's not wiping properly or not getting enough bathroom breaks at school?  I'm not sure, but I was not happy about that.  I'm glad it wasn't anything too serious, but still....

So our trip was still okay to take... Emma just had to take antibiotics with her.

We arrived very early at the hotel in Kansas City.  Emma did good on the plane ride.  We sat with all my hippo friends and ate some breakfast, then as we were too early to check-in we went up to a friends' room and waiting in the lobby for our fun day to start.  While waiting Emma got really warm and fell asleep.  But as we boarded the buses for our tour of the city that afternoon, she started throwing up.  Not a good sign.  So off the bus we went.  No tour for us.  Luckily, we were able to check in & the nice lady working went to the store for me and brought back some tylenol for Emma.  Emma ended up sleeping the afternoon away.  We did manage to get down to the friday night get-together in time for some dinner and one of the games.

On Saturday we had a visit to the zoo to see the hippos and of course some of the large kitty cats for Emma.  She had a fun time riding a trolley and a boat.  Then we went over to our hippo friend's house who lives in KC and she showed us her lovely collection and her hippo car.  Yes, a hippo car complete with bubbles coming out of the rear.  hee hee  Emma loved it.

We rode on buses that took us all around that day from activity to activity.  Emma and I spent our time on the Party Bus.  I believe Emma really enjoyed the atmosphere....

    We had a good weekend.

Emma is doing well in school.  She seems to really enjoy herself.  I've noticed that she really loves gym and art.  I don't get a lot of information from Emma, but I hear a little from her teacher.  Apparently many of her classmates love playing with her and often try to help take care of her.  It's really sweet.
